The Department of Education offers a 3-year degree course in BA Education, with extensive campus and community activities, that shape the student’s commitment to improve the educational system, for a vibrant developing 21st Century world.
The faculty recognizes the importance of aligning instructional strategies, approaches and initiatives with the national goals and principles set forth by the National Educational Policy 2020. Our team is committed to crafting a curriculum that goes beyond traditional teaching methods, incorporating innovative approaches that foster critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
The faculty enables students to embrace the power of modern technology as a catalyst for effective learning, bridging gaps and inspiring collaboration; for enhanced educational outcomes. Recognizing the importance of nurturing a skilled and passionate student force, we prioritize practical work, by providing ongoing training, mentorship, and resources; so as to empower them to refine their skills, stay up-to-date with the latest educational research, and create engaging learning experiences for students.

The Mumbai University Bachelor’s Degree in Education has been carefully designed to :
- Develop knowledge and understanding about the philosophical and sociological bases of education;
- Develop ability to understand learner behaviour and personality, and capability to apply this knowledge and understanding to guide learners to learn efficiently and effectively;
- Develop a national perspective about educational theory and practice to enable learners to visualize the inter-linkages and dependency among different educational systems and institutions;
- Develop an understanding about the role of teachers and counsellors in various educational institutions;
- Develop a working knowledge of ICTs and their application in formal and non-formal systems of education;
- Develop a basic skills in designing and constructing non-projected and projected instructional material for use in formal and informal learning environments;
- Generate awareness and understanding of some specialized areas of education and human development like special needs of education, curriculum development, environmental education, vocational education, teacher education, elementary education, measurement and evaluation, value education and human responsibility so as to widen the horizon of understanding of modern educational practices and to develop critical thinking pertaining to issues related to education.
About the Department
The Faculty encourage both individual and co-operative learning and research and hope to foster an ethos of life-long-learning. Due emphasis is given to active learning and the acquisition of both generic and specific skills and abilities. In terms of teaching and learning, the course units are delivered through lectures, group-work, practicals, visits, laboratory classes, workshops, lectures, seminars, individual tutorials, guided reading, independent study, email discussion groups, individual project supervision, etc. It is recognised that these categories are not mutually exclusive; lectures may, for instance, involve student activities and opportunities for dialogue. Practicals cover a wide variety of methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. Internal Assessment comprise essays, project reports, presentations and tests. Considerable attention is given to methods in teaching, learning and assessment, and it is recognised that there are a great variety of ways in which material can be presented and skills developed. These are not static, but continually evolve and change with technological as well as pedagogical developments, including developments in the use of information technology and other media.

Each student is provided regular guidance and support in relevant areas of personal and academic life. They will have access to the computer laboratory, for content development and practical work. Training in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will be given as well as meta-searching and e-portfolios. The department also has membership with two international libraries; providing books, periodicals and e-material for students’ enhanced learning. We have an excellent library with access to academic journals and other literary resources. The department provides a career-counseling and advisory service that any student can use.
